The diplomatic relations between Türkiye and the Netherlands date back to 1612 when the first Dutch Ambassador was assigned to Istanbul. In 2012, the 400th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations is being celebrated in both Türkiye and the Netherlands with various activities. Yahya Karaca Paşa, the first resident Turkish Ambassador to the Netherlands, was assigned in 1856 and the first Turkish mission became operational in the Netherlands in 1859. The buildings which are currently used as the Residence of the Ambassador and the offices of the counsellors have been purchased in 1938. The building which is currently used as the chancellery has been acquired in 1996.

The offices of the Armed Forces Attaché, the Counsellor for Labour and Social Security, the Counsellor for Religious Affairs, the Counsellor for Cultural Affairs and Promotion, the Counsellor for Commercial Affairs,the Counsellor for Economic Affairs,the Security Counsellor, the Educational Counsellor, the Press Counsellor, the Legal Counsellor and the Treasury and Finance Counsellor also operate as part of the Embassy.

Consular services in the Netherlands are provided by our three other missions in the Netherlands: the Consulate Generals in Amsterdam, Deventer and Rotterdam.

The area of responsibility of our Consulate General in Amsterdam covers Noord Holland, Flevoland and Utrecht; the area of responsibility of the Consulate General in Deventer covers Groningen, Friesland, Drenthe, Overijssel, Gelderland and Limburg; the area of responsibility of our Consulate General in Rotterdam covers the provinces of Zuid Holland, Zeeland andNoord Brabant.
