No: 174, 27 June 2018, Press Release Regarding EU General Affairs Council Conclusions on Turkey
The EU General Affairs Council’s conclusions on Turkey taken at its meeting on 26 June 2018 is yet another manifestation of the EU's prejudiced and unfair attitude towards Turkey.
While these conclusions do not prejudice Turkey’s candidate status, the fact that our accession process is tied to new conditions within a groundless cause-effect rationale is completely unacceptable.
Furthermore, putting conditions on the modernisation of the Customs Union, which would serve the interests of both Turkey and the EU, does not make sense either.
Once again, the EU has failed to be fair and honest with Turkey. Despite the EU’s attitude, alleging that it is Turkey that is moving away from the process is hypocritical and inconsistent.
